Preacher: Francis Blight
Theme: Jesus: Salvation is Found in No One Else
Passage: Acts 4:5-12

Holy Communion Service

The teaching series for April and May is titled The Acts of the Apostles: Proclaiming Jesus and this Sunday I will be preaching on Jesus: Salvation is Found in No One Else (Acts 4:1-12). In the book of Acts, Luke the gospel writer gives an account of what happened next after Jesus’ resurrection and ascension to heaven. He records how the gospel of Jesus began to spread out from Jerusalem and the church began to grow. Acts is full of speeches and sermons. David Peterson describes it as a narrative dominated by speeches stating that a third of Acts’ 28 chapters are made up of speeches and sermons. Why is this? According to Ben Witherington it is because ‘Luke is chronicling a historical movement that was carried forward in the main by evangelistic preaching’. In this short series we will study a different speech/sermon from Acts each week asking, what was the main content of the first Christian preaching? Engaging with these first sermons, will help to sharpen your clarity regarding what it is about Jesus that we need to know and to make known in our day, as we “try to bring people to receive Christ as Lord and Saviour and to join our church family”. May God bless you through the preaching of his Word over the coming Sundays.

The All Saints Sunday Club will be starting back after the Easter break with three groups for 0-16 year olds.
Each Sunday at 9.35am there is a short prayer time before the service which is open to all. I would be delighted if you are able to join us to pray for the ministry of God’s Word through his Spirit.

Acts 4:5-12

Bible Quote 4:5 The next day the rulers, elders and teachers of the law met in Jerusalem.

4:6 Annas the high priest was there, and so were Caiaphas, John, Alexander and the other men of the high priest's family.
4:7 They had Peter and John brought before them and began to question them: "By what power or what name did you do this?"
4:8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: "Rulers and elders of the people!
4:9 If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a cripple and are asked how he was healed,
4:10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed.

4:11 He is " 'the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone. '
4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
