Justice? Don’t make me laugh!  (Matthew 12:13-23)

Online Church: Watch

(This will be available from 10:00am on Sunday)

Online Church

Speaker: Aëlla Gage, Leader: Francis Blight.

One recent social media headline read, “British justice? Don’t make me laugh!” Everyday we are saturated with stories of justice; sometimes working, sometimes failing, sometimes delayed…frustrated…corrupted…escaped. Now more than ever justice matters on the world stage and personally in our lives, but will it ever win the day? Can it ever overcome the endless cycle of crime, of abused power, of  exploitation, of plain unfairness? Can it ever heal wounds…restore broken lives and hearts?

The cynical response might be “Don’t make me laugh!” Whatever your experience, we would love to invite you to explore with us as we take a fresh look at how the Bible responds. Here, perhaps surprisingly, is wisdom, goodness, healing and hope in the certain victory of justice.  Not ultimately found in judicial systems or political promises… but in a person. Do join us.

The All Saints Sunday Club will be running with groups for children and young people aged 4- 16 years.

You are invited to stay for a cup of tea or coffee after the service.

Matthew 12:13-23

Bible Quote 12:13 Then he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other.
12:14 But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus.
12:15 Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. Many followed him, and he healed all their sick,

12:16 warning them not to tell who he was.
12:17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
12:18 "Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.
12:19 He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets.
12:20 A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he leads justice to victory.

12:21 In his name the nations will put their hope."
12:22 Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see.
12:23 All the people were astonished and said, "Could this be the Son of David?"
