SUMMARY:Stephen: Witness to Jesus\, Full of the Holy Spirit
DESCRIPTION:Title:Stephen: Witness to Jesus\, Full of the Holy Spirit\nLocation:\n10:00 – 11:00 John Owen Barn (Morning worship service)\n11:30 – 12:30 Eight Ash Green (Holy Communion service)\nPreacher: Francis Blight\nTeaching Passage: Acts 7:48-8:4\nNotice sheet: 3rd May 2026 \nOnline Church: Watch\n (This will be available from 10:00am on Sunday) \n \n \n Online Church\n \n \nActs 7:48 – 8:4\n\n\n\n\nBible Quote\n\n\n7:48 "However\, the Most High does not live in houses made by men. As the prophet says: \n7:49 " 'Heaven is my throne\, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build for me? says the Lord. Or where will my resting place be? \n7:50 Has not my hand made all these things?' \n\n7:51 "You stiff-necked people\, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are just like your fathers: You always resist the Holy Spirit! \n7:52 Was there ever a prophet your fathers did not persecute? They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him-- \n7:53 you who have received the law that was put into effect through angels but have not obeyed it." \n7:54 When they heard this\, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. \n7:55 But Stephen\, full of the Holy Spirit\, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God\, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. \n\n7:56 "Look\," he said\, "I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God." \n7:57 At this they covered their ears and\, yelling at the top of their voices\, they all rushed at him\, \n7:58 dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile\, the witnesses laid their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul. \n7:59 While they were stoning him\, Stephen prayed\, "Lord Jesus\, receive my spirit." \n7:60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out\, "Lord\, do not hold this sin against them." When he had said this\, he fell asleep. \n\n8:1 And Saul was there\, giving approval to his death. On that day a great persecution broke out against the church at Jerusalem\, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. \n8:2 Godly men buried Stephen and mourned deeply for him. \n8:3 But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house\, he dragged off men and women and put them in prison. \n8:4 Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. \n8:5 Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Christ there. \n\n8:6 When the crowds heard Philip and saw the miraculous signs he did\, they all paid close attention to what he said. \n8:7 With shrieks\, evil spirits came out of many\, and many paralytics and cripples were healed. \n8:8 So there was great joy in that city. \n\n\n \n  \n\n

Some of them asked\, "What is this babbler trying to say?" Others remarked\, "He seems to be advocating foreign gods." They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and the resurrection. \n17:19 Then they took him and brought him to a meeting of the Areopagus\, where they said to him\, "May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting? \n17:20 You are bringing some strange ideas to our ears\, and we want to know what they mean." \n\n17:21 (All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing but talking about and listening to the latest ideas.) \n17:22 Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: "Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. \n17:23 For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship\, I even found an altar with this inscription: \n17:24 "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. \n17:25 And he is not served by human hands\, as if he needed anything\, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. \n\n17:26 From one man he made every nation of men\, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. \n17:27 God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him\, though he is not far from each one of us. \n17:28 'For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said\, 'We are his offspring.' \n17:29 "Therefore since we are God's offspring\, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone--an image made by man's design and skill. \n17:30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance\, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. \n\n17:31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead." \n17:32 When they heard about the resurrection of the dead\, some of them sneered\, but others said\, "We want to hear you again on this subject." \n17:33 At that\, Paul left the Council. \n17:34 A few men became followers of Paul and believed. Among them was Dionysius\, a member of the Areopagus\, also a woman named Damaris\, and a number of others. \n\n\n \n  \n\n
